The past 10 days have been a fabulous whirlwind of fun with our Malaysian family in Chicago, busy getting my granddaughter Ashley enrolled in college. We had parties, sleepovers, shopping trips, food of every sort. My Facebook page has lots of pictures. Tomorrow I leave for a quick trip to Florida with one of my best friends to visit another best friend. Great memories being made.
And the other side of that, the memory of a vital, beautiful young woman, our Laurie will be honored by me and, at this point, three of the best small group gals plus a great mom and a hubby at the AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) Community Walk. It is being held Saturday, October 4th at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village. I would welcome anyone else who would like to join us.
Here is how my fundraising letter reads and you can click to my page to see how I am doing or to "Events" button and check the whole team. If you would like to contribute, it would be great to donate to others on the "Laurie's Legacy" team. People have already been very generous to me. At this point, (though let me quickly point out, this is not a competition.) I am the number two fundraiser out of about 475 for this walk and our team number 3. Very sweet!
Dear Friend,It has been three years since we lost our beautiful Laurie to suicide. The whys may never be answered but our hope to help prevent others from making this sad choice continues. I have been involved with Grief Support at our church, Willow Creek, and each new session I am saddened to hear of another death of a young person to suicide.I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide this fall to walk in AFSP's 2008 Out of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support/any amount that you give me for this worthwhile cause. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 32,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. I know we are asked to contribute to many causes. If you cannot contribute at this time, we would appreciate your prayers.Donating online is safe and easy!
