Day 4 Smoke Free, Yippee!
August 1st was Day 1 of my journey to become a non-smoker. I am taking a med called Chantix that takes away the desire to smoke. Prior to Day 1 I was taking a graduating dosage of the prescription leading to Quit Day. Honestly, I woke up Wednesday morning and had no immediate thought to lighting up. Almost not believing this possible, I moved through the morning traffic, work frustrations and the drive home without having a cigarette. Now I really don't want to admit this but I loved to smoke. Smoking covered many stresses, was my reward, my rebellion and probably lots more. And now I don't want to. I am hopeful that by going a day at a time, I will have made it to the land of nice smelling non smokers. Thanks for the many notes of encouragement.
And this morning our patience paid off, Denver, Hayden and I made fishing history (for us at least!) We caught two fish! Granted they were pretty itsy-bitsy but they were real live fish. Denver reeled 'em in, Hayden manned the Shrek 3 net and Grandma removed the hook. (Yuck!) Breakfast at McDonald's and we called it a morning.
Three prayer requests. 1. Teen Camp at LGYC starts tomorrow. Pray for safety, and teens to turn their hearts to God. 2. Pete and I go to Colorado for some R and R and to help be part of a Relay for Life my sweet cousin Laurie is co-chair of in Trinidad CO. We covet your prayers for travels and for life here at home for Katie and the kids. 3. Our dear friends, John and Karen, as John undergoes another serious treatment to get his cancer into remission. The whole family is exhausted and could really use all our prayers for a good outcome. They also know He holds them every step of the way. Thanks so much...

Barb, I am so proud of you for who you are. I can't wait to see you out here. We got chickens!!!! And of course we will be praying...Love, Gail
I am proud of you!!
When I was a smoker, it was more of a stress-reliever for me and oh, did I lean on that! I, too, took medication to take away the craving and it helped tremendously. Now, I just need to get my boyfriend to quit. hehe
*hugs & prayers*

Barb....I'm sorry to hear about Karen and John. Please tell Karen that I will be praying for them.
I'm proud of your commitment to quit smoking. I will continue to pray that the desire becomes less and less and that the mere smell of smoke will be offensive to you.
Have a wonderful time in Colorado.
In His love,
Eileen G.
Yipppeee! Smoke-free!!! I'm so proud of you! Let me know how the Chantix thing works for you...it's so new so I haven't heard much about it from patients yet. :)

Barb! WOW, I am so impressed by you and proud of you. Keep pressing on... Of all the people I know... you have the perseverance and grit to do it! Are we seeing you guys when you are out here? I will be house sitting for my brothers beautiful house in Conifer (hot tub in the mountains!) ... and also at my house too some of the time. Anyhow, we'd love to see you guys if it can fit in -- even for coffee or whatever.
